To reveal the paintings, a careful uncovering operation (descialbo) of the overlying paint layers will be performed. This involves softening the layers using neutral cellulose pulp poultices and using suitable scalpels and scrapers until the original painting is found. In sections where decorations are covered by plaster, the latter will be removed manually with a &#8220;martellina&#8221; (small hammer) following the consolidation of any loose pictorial plaster. Subsequent temporary &#8220;scarpa&#8221; grouting will be applied to facilitate the removal of residual whitewash, to be carried out dry using scalpels or precision equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PRE-CONSOLIDATION OF THE PAINT FILM. Pre-consolidation of the pictorial\/frescoed surface on flat and\/or curved, horizontal or vertical supports showing signs of flaking, to be carried out prior to the cleaning operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preventive consolidation operations of the paintings where the paint film is decohesed from the underlying plaster, through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adhesion of Japanese paper of appropriate thickness to the pictorial surface using a soft brush dipped in demineralized water to prevent color loss and facilitate re-adhesion to the original support;<\/li>\n<li>Injection of an adhesive compound made of calcium caseinate, using syringes behind the paint film partially brought back into contact with the masonry support;<\/li>\n<li>Removal of the facing paper after a suitable setting time using natural sponges soaked in demineralized water, acetone, and alcohol. Alternatively, and after preliminary testing, for powdery areas, layers of nano-lime microemulsions may be applied after a preliminary application of alcohol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CLEANING OF THE PICTORIAL SURFACE WITH AMMONIUM CARBONATE POULTICES<\/strong>. Cleaning of all original decorated plasters by applying a saturated solution of ammonium bicarbonate, partly applied by brush and partly via cellulose pulp poultice, to remove any organic residues deposited on the surface. Subsequent rinsing with natural sponges soaked in demineralized water after appropriate contact times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PLASTER CONSOLIDATION<\/strong>. Consolidation of plaster showing significant detachment from the support via injections of a salt-free mineral hydraulic mortar; subsequent re-adhesion of the plaster using small wooden props kept in place until the completion of the hydrolysis process, following this procedure:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Injections behind the surface with a PLM consolidating mixture, consisting of low-salt hydraulic lime or calcium caseinate, following the aspiration of dust and humidification of the cavities with demineralized water and alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PICTORIAL INTEGRATION. Pictorial integration of the losses (lacunae) in the painting, following grouting with mortars composed of lime putty and sand of suitable grain size. This is achieved through multiple glazes (velature) matched to the original colors, based on pure natural pigments (earths and oxides) highly diluted with ammonium caseinate to obtain a unified chromatic value. Where the design can be reconstructed, in both micro and macro lacunae, reintegration will proceed according to the instructions provided by the Works Management (DD.
